Baby Eczema Itching

Baby Eczema.....?
My 4 month old has baby eczema and recently had an infection on face. doc has prescribed oilatum for the bath, eparderm and now a steroid cream. i have heard that natural yogurt can ease the itching, has anyone heard of this or anything else to help his itching as he gets very frustrated and keeps opening the scab so it is taking longer to heal?
Hi, my 6 month old baby girl has been suffering from a severe eczema and she has been very frustrated, waking up craying, and scratching her scalp until she covers herself with blood, making her skin awful. To make a long story short... we took a lot of precautions:
1. We had to have her hands always covered with mittens or socks (because we kept running out of mittents) and kept her nails very short (filling them often). But a baby has to be able to use her hands... so we did that when she was unsupervised only (sleeping, across the room, etc). She was a little McGiver though... and we also had to continue to swaddle her at night to avoid her self-harming. It helps.
2. We change her formula to hypoallergenic (if you are breastfeeding, consult with your doctor to make sure something you are eating is not causing her to itch more)
3. We eliminated water from the tap to avoid clorine that might make her skin worse. I make her formula with bottled water. For a while I also bathed her with bottled water when her skin was really bad.
4. We kept her extremely moisturized. In doing so, we simplified the many creams we were using and used only vaseline or acquafor, because other creams contain many other ingredients.
5. We had her be naked for several sessions, just all covered with cream, specially after her bath because that's when the skin absorves the moisture the best.
6. We bathe her with hypoallergenic soap only. The dermatologist said that bathing her almost every day or every other day had been a good thing because that way we kept her skin clean and avoided infection.
7. We wash her clothes with only baby hypoallergenic laundry soap.
8. We purchased humidifiers for the house and the room she sleeps in to cut down on the dryness of the air which is worst during winter, with heating systems and so on.
9. We only introduced her to food, one single ingredient at a time, one new per week. I made it myself to make sure it didn't have any additives, etc. For instance, only boiled carrots, or only peas, or only apple. And the doc. dermatologist requested to hold off on introducing egg and other complex products until 1 year of age.
10. The dermatologist prescribed two kinds of creams: Triamcinolone Acetonide and Cortisone Ointment 2.5%. First one, twice a day, during one week. Then the second for another week. You can purchase Hydrocortisone 1% over the counter. But keep in mind that, it is not good to use cortisone in large dosage or during long periods of time. And, you should not use it from her neck up, but it's ok on the rest of the body.
HOWEVER, in our case, her eczema was so aggressive that her skin was inflamed, very very red, awful in the side of her head, behind her knees and her elbows, and the baby was really desperate, so they recommended we also use a very small amount sparingly in her scalp, once a day for a couple of days until the inflamation and redness went away.
In two days, her skin cleared up really well. Once you can control the redness (inflamation), usually the itchiness stops. The doctor recommended not using each cream for more than one week.
After that, it's a question of keeping your baby very moisturized with vaseline base creams. Keep it very simple. Moisturize every single time you change her diaper or every time you are going to put your baby through climate change.
PS: We've tried bathing her on oatmeal solution, using virgen olive oil, pure virgen coconut oil, etc, etc, etc. None of these things did her wrong but they did not resolve the problem because the eczema had gotten out of hand.
If you have concerns, I really recomment you contact a Dermatologist or Alergist.
Sorry about the long message but I hope this helps.
