Common Eczema Areas
Cause of intense itchy skin?

In about the past 2 weeks my skin has gone crazy itchy! First it starts up with a little itchiness (most common on thighs, stomach, and sides) then when I scratch (been trying very hard not to) the itching feels 100x worse. When I continue to scratch, I sometimes get little bumps on the area I've been scratching. If I scratch enough, the bumps bleed and turn into tiny scabs. I've been using a generic Extra Strength lotion (unscented) and it seems to help a little bit. I've had extremely dry skin in the winter before, but nothing like this. I don't *think* it's eczema, because it doesnt look like it..ideas anyone? even something simple to kill the itchiness?

I had the same thing happen to me this time last year. It was on my thighs, stomach sides too. They are terrible. after agonizing, i went to see a dermatologist, and he said it was eczema.
it is a minor eczema breakout i had (with no scabs/puss thank god), and it went away with the perscribed lotion they gave me.
Aveeno helps a lot too. This year, my eczema didnt come back, because i kept my skin too moist to let it not dry up at all.
I take a shower, and before my skin dries (don't dry yourself with towel) i put extra moisture lotion all over my body, and cozy up in a robe and let my skin absorb them.
This works for me cuz my skin didnt flare up this year!!
Go see a derm, they 'll prescribe you something and should be gone in a month

Safe And Dangerous Cures For Eczema: Watch What You Put On Your Skin

There are many helpful discussions on the internet for natural cures for eczema but also there are dangerous ones you should never try. You can't always trust recipes passed on from generation to generation and by word of mouth for the treatment of disorders, and this includes eczema natural cures. For instance, one website recommended soaking in chlorine water. This can be dangerous and should not be done without consulting a physician or naturopath to see if it's recommended. Abrasive scrubs are also not a good idea though they may be helpful for other skin problems. Scrubbing the skin can be harmful for certain conditions including dermatitis.

There are some safe eczema cures which one can test at home to see if they work well with your skin disorder and improve it.

One that has many positive comments is to apply a moisturizing oil such as coconut oil or neem oil to the skin. Keep in mind that common sense is important and you don't want to apply to bleeding skin, open wounds nor to areas of the skin where pus is coming out. Sometimes people make the mistake of drying out their skin when they have eczema, but this is a skin disorder that does quite well and in fact requires moisturizing. In fact, even if you are using a steroid lotion on your skin, dermatologists still suggest that moisturizer be placed on the eczema areas two times a day to increase skin moisture.

A second safe remedy is to sit in a bathtub that has oatmeal flakes in it. These are packaged by companies and sold in pharmacies but you can make your own by putting some raw oatmeal into a mesh bag and filling up the tub. Do not make the error of using piping hot water as this has an adverse effect on dermatitis. It is very drying to the skin and can make things worse.

A final holistic approach to eczema is to add omega 3 and omega 6 oils to your daily supplements in the forms of fish oil and flax seed oil. These are very good for the skin and have anti-inflammatory properties.
