Excessive hand washing?
I just recently got a new puppy about a month ago. Since then, i have been really cautious with my hygiene (because i have been learning about worms & other diseases in biology) and always washing my hands after handling him and before eating. Now, i have noticed my thumb, index finger and middle finger on my right hand have a rough skin and my knuckles are red and sore/itchy. I have little tiny scratches on them and i think it may be from washing my hands too much. It has been like this for about 2 weeks. I'm worried that it will spread to the rest of my hand and maybe turn into eczema or something, can anyone help?
Excessive handwashing diminishes your natural oils in your skin. Washing you hands (with a gentle antibacterial soap) is great and its wonderful that you are aware of germs your new puppy can have, however make sure you moisturize after wahing your hands to prevent dryness. Use a mild moisturizer like Aveeno.
Try These Simple But Effective Methods For Healing Eczema And Eliminating The Symptoms
It is very disappointing that there is little progress in the treatment of eczema by the medical profession. Many know of the frustration that can be felt by pointless trips to the doctor only to be prescribed with steroid creams that can only be used for a short time and have hideous side-effects. However, there are many alternative methods to eliminate symptoms of eczema, some of which I have listed below that can be incorporated into a routine for healing eczema and keeping it at bay.
Vitamin E Skin Cream.
Vitamin E being a fat soluble vitamin is widely known for it‘s role in skin health. Not only does it help to heal eczema and the already damaged skin, but also keeps the skin strong and regenerated. There are plenty of vitamin E creams available, try to go for a completely organic variety with no paraffin or parabens.
Emollients??
Many doctors prescribe emollient as part of a skin care regime, usually as part of a steroid cream combination. For some, emollients do the job, however they do not benefit all types of skin. If you are battling away with emollients but you are still getting all the symptoms of eczema and feeling itchy after applying it, it may be time to think about a different form of moisturization. You might want to try something similar to the above vitamin E cream or any other unperfumed natural skin cream.
Blueberry Leaf Extract
Blueberry leaves contain a property called chlorogenic acid which has an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin. This can be obtained in the form of an extract and can be applied to the skin when it is enflamed which soothes and assists in healing eczema. If you have many allergies to natural foods it may be a good idea to check on a small patch of skin first to make sure you do not have an allergy to the substance.
Carry Moisturizer With You At All Times
In daily life, even though you have moisturized your skin in the morning, there may be times at work or school where you find your hands or face getting dry. Some heating and air conditioning systems can have a tremendous impact on the skin. If you have a small container of skin cream with you, you can reapply when necessary. This may sound a bit obvious but it is so easy to forget and the cause of many out-breaks of eczema begin with a dry patch of skin which becomes itchy.
Avoid Perfumed Products
One of the most common irritants for eczema is perfumes and harsh chemicals. If you can eliminate this from your daily life you will be on your way to preventing out-breaks of eczema.
Firstly choose a non-biological washing powder for your clothes. Do not use conditioner in a clothes wash as the chemicals involved will cause irritation. The non-biological detergents are less harsh on the clothes and they will feel a bit softer.
Most people that have suffered from eczema for any length of time will be aware of the irritation caused by perfume and perfumed products such as deodorants, perfumed skin cream etc. Where possible go for the dermatological tested non-perfumed products. There are many available so this shouldn’t be difficult.
Many people are turning to natural methods for curing eczema. One particular system, founded by Susan Clark for healing eczema and eliminating it forever has changed the lives of many. To discover the natural methods involved continue to Healing Eczema.
