Exercising with Eczema?

I have eczema and any time I exercise, my eczema goes red and starts itching, which flares it up again. Is there an anti-histemeine I can take before I exercise to stop the itching starting?

I will go to my GP but I want to know if anyone has the same problem as well.

Thank you.

5 Useful Steps To Include In Your Eczema Home Treatment System

It is often, if not always the lifestyle that causes the symptoms of eczema. Many who suffer, go about their usual daily activities unaware that there could be ways to halt the unending display of itchy, red, rashy skin. Following are some very effective methods that you can incorporate into your eczema home treatment system to reduce the chances of an eczema break-out and begin the process of healing the skin.

1) Are You Using A Skin Cream That Is Compatible With Your Skin?

Some people do not realise that it is their moisturizer that is causing the skin to be irritated. If you have very sensitive skin, you should be using a non-perfumed skin cream, organic if possible ,or at least dermatologically tested.

Moisturize 1-2 per day and only after washing the skin, you don’t want to lock in dirt.

2) Are You Allergic To Anything?

Another common mistake is that people often don’t realise that they have a sensitivity to various substances such as, certain foods, materials, chemicals in household detergents.

Find out what you are allergic to either by self-monitoring by keeping a diary of when you have an eczema flare-up and where you were what you were doing/eating. Or you can take a skin allergy test, ask your doctor if you can have a skin-prick test to determine your allergies. This is a routine, quick test which is performed in a clinical setting.

3) Are You Stressed?

Many forms of eczema can be brought on by stress and anxiety. If you are stressed or anxious on a daily basis then this could be the root cause of your eczema. In some cases it can be very severe such as dishydrotic eczema which is largely due to emotional stress and is characterised by eruptions of fluid filled blisters and swelling of the skin.

Try to reduce the stress of your life, it can be worthwhile taking up a calming exercise routine such as yoga or tai chi. More aggressive exercise can cause profuse sweating which can irritate the skin, but if your skin is not affected by sweat then any exercise is good for eliminating stress.

5) Keeping The Skin Clean

Especially the hands, as they are often coming into contact with the face and neck. Bacteria on the skin can cause irritation and infection on existing eczema wounds. Washing everyday and moisturizing afterwards is sufficient but more often for the hands.

If you are undertaking an activity that involves getting any kind of substance on your hands, you must wash thoroughly afterwards. Wiping them alone is no good. If you are a smoker, again wash your hands afterwards, as nicotine and smoke are common offenders for irritation and can be the single cause of eczema.

Using these simple methods as your eczema home treatment to avoid irritating the skin, can go a long way to helping you heal any existing eczema and avoid future out-breaks.
