Eczema Face Wash
Eczema Face Wash
I can't concentrate because of eczema?

I have facial eczema and it's itchy and it flakes a lot. I'm so worried that it might cover my whole face. oh please. I don't want to be like that. This anxiety makes me tense and not in the mood. I'm not using any creams or soap to cure my eczema. I don't wash the parts of my face that have eczema because it itches. I do worry but not like this.

I also have facial eczema - mainly around and under my eyes and eyebrows, but also a bit on my cheeks. I have had it for the last two years, and tried all sorts of things. It has improved lately, but I know how bad the flakiness and redness can make you feel, so I sympathise. :(
Here is what I've found works best:

- Do not EVER use soap on your face. Chances are if you have eczema, you have skin that naturally doesn't get too oily or greasy anyway. Instead, wash your face using a plain unperfumed emollient cream as a soap subsititue. Don't use too much of it, and don't wash your face too much (once a day is enough.)
- When washing your hair, don't let the shampoo touch your face. I have long hair, and I wash it over the bath, and shower myself separately to avoid getting shampoo on my face.
- Avoid scratching or touching your face: the rash itself is caused by scratching when you feel itchy. If you scratch at nigh while asleep, you might want to try cotton gloves that are designed for people with eczema. Keep your nails short and resist the urge to scratch.
- Don't wear makeup (sorry, not sure if you're male or female, but I thought it was worth saying!)
- Buy a liquid paraffin emollient - this has helped big time. It looks like clear thick grease. buit works really well. The only problem is it makes you face really shiny, so wait til you hace som,e time along or at home, then cover the areas on your face really thickly and leave it on for as long as you can. Try rubbing it in very gently to the affected areas.
- See a dermatologist. They might be able to prescribe you a mild steroid cream like hydrocortisone, which helps reduce the itching and flakiness. If they do, it should be the ointment type, not the cream.
- Try to de-stress. Stress makes eczema worse. Also remember it looks worse to you than it does to other people. You probably look at yourself close up in a mirror, and it's the first thing you look at. Other people don't tend to look at people that way, so it won't look as bad to them as it does to you.

I hope this helps a bit. Let me know if you have any questions.
