Eczema On Scalp In Children
Anyone out there with a child that has infant eczema?
I think my 5 month old son has eczema. He has rough, red, bumpy patches on his back, belly, upper arms and scalp.
It is really only bad on his scalp, where yesterday I think it started to weep. He had just had a bath and his hair was napped down on the lesion. I washed his hair with a wet towel again and within 30 min his hair was napped down to the red patch again.
I am calling his doctor tomorrow, but in the meantime, is there anything to do to it? I am scared to put anything on it because I worry it will burn or hurt since it is weeping.
Also, should I call his Pedi, or should I call a dermatologist?
my son has eczema and has had it since he was about 2 or 3 months. We went to his pediatrician who got us into a specialist. Our son is 2 1/2 now and only has a few issues with itching and only when it's cold/dry out. In the meantime... our specialist says to stop using soap with fragrance which includes laundry and dryer sheets too. We were also told that if he's itchy to throw him in the tub (with no soap/bubbles) and rinse him off. Then get some eucerin lotion and lube him up. It really will help! Eucerin also makes a body wash that is fragrance free and we love and can get samples from the pediatrician if you ask. Our son was put on a couple of steroid creams (Rx's from the specialist) that will help clear it up quickly and he won't be miserable.
It could also be a food allergy to milk so they might have you start on a soy formula...
Good Luck!
