Eczema Or Dry Skin
Eczema Or Dry Skin
How do you get rid of dry skin?

Ever since i was a baby i have had bad dry skin. I have sensitive skin. I also have eczema. What will work as a daily moisturizer or cleansers etc. That are not harsh to the skin?

I was born with ichthyosis. It's a condition where the skin is very dry and scaly, especially on the shins and bumpy behind the upper arms. (That's where the "ichthy-" part of the word comes from, meaning fish-like to refer to the scaliness). I have always had to take special care of my skin to keep it from getting itchy and cracked.

After I shower, I use a Eucerin emollient all over. I get it from the pharmacy, no prescription required. It has no scent or colour added and it lasts over 24 hours. The best thing is it is only about $20 for a large jar. Lasts about a month. Don't use it on your face, though since it can clog your pores. Instead, try Vaseline Intensive Care for dry/sensitive skin on your face.

I use a prescription corticosteroid cream when I get an outbreak of eczema and that usually takes care of it.

If I have a bath, I use a little oil in the tub and then use my Eucerin/Glycerine/Water after I get out.

Another trick I've recently discovered is after I wash my hair in the shower, I spread a little hair conditioner all over me and then rinse it off without rubbing. That makes my skin even softer.

When I clean or do dishes, I wear super-duper rubber gloves (the kind that are chemical-safe) so that my hands don't get red and irritated.

After I wash my hands I use a scent-free moisturizer EVERY time. It's a pain but it's worth it.

When I purchase jewellery I make sure it is nickel-free. Many people with sensitive skin have a nickel allergy. I do.

Good luck! With good care, you should have no big problems.
