Eczema Symmetrical

Is a scab forming on a mole normal?
I have a really small mole on the outside of my hand, about 1mm in diameter. It is relatively symmetrical and round, the border is clean, its color is dark brown (i am dark skinned, so no surprise there), and it was slightly elevated -- to answer the ABCDs of skin cancer screening.
I just noticed that a scab has formed pretty much covering the mole, and in the same color. It almost looks like the mole is trying to get out from under my skin. I've thought up of some causes:
- it could be some weird mole
- skin cancer (? - I'm very low risk and no family history that I know of)
- I have eczema on my hands -- I could have scratched it?
- to add to dry skin, i wash my hands quite frequently, and i live in a dry climate -- was this washing too abrasive on my skin?
Is this normal?
any time a mole does anything differently you should go to the doctor. it's better to be safe than sorry.
