Eczema That Does Not Itch
Why does my scalp itch so much?
I'm an african american woman with slight eczema on my body so i'm not sure if it's in my head also. My hair itches everyday. It always feels like little bugs are biting my scalp or like when someone pulls one strand of your hair. I definitely don't have lice, and I don't think I have psoriasis because my scalp isn't scaly. I've tried every dandruff shampoo and nothing works. My dermatologist couldn't even help me. I sometimes wear a sew in weave but have to take it out within a week because my hair is so itchy. Can anyone suggest any real solutuions that worked for them. I'm not looking for obvious answers but real solutions. Thanks for your help.
Btw....I have very dry hair and a dry scalp. My stylist always tell me that. I try parting my hair and greasing my scalp but I always forget after few days. I guess I need to be more diligent.
First, what type hair do you have? Dry, normal, or oily? Mine is oily [meaning it gets dirty real fast], and I use a "clarifying" shampoo. The thing is, if I use too much shampoo, or too much conditioner, my scalp gets really itchy, and I get dandruff.
Find a shampoo for "normal to oily hair" or one that says "clarifying" on it, and use just enough to cover your head... no excess. The same with the conditioner -- again, for normal-to-oily hair. If you use too much conditioner it will dry out your scalp, and make it itchy.
Once you get it right, the itchiness will stop until your hair needs washing again. That's the way oily hair works. Before I figured out my hair was oily I used "normal" products, and my head itched constantly.
Try these things, and remember, you may have to experiment a few times on how much shampoo and conditioner to use at first. And NEVER use a shampoo/conditioner mix; that never works with oily hair.
