Eczema Uvb

I TANNED -- didn't burn -- but now my skin is flaking off!!!!?

I have severe eczema on my joints, and I've tried steroidal creams (even going up to Clobetasol, which is the strongest they make) for 5 months, and NOTHING worked, so I tried going into a UVB tanning bed, which I heard can help. I went 3 times within about 10 days, which I know is a lot, bit I tan easily and don't burn, and I was desperate for some relief. Thank God, it DID help, and in fact, it is all but gone!!!!! But now, other parts of my body are flaky! It's not like my skin is "peeling" like when you get a burn and then you're left with 2-tone skin, but my skin is just dry and when my clothes rub against it, it flakes off and is nasty. Is there anything I can do? I've tried lufahing it, but that doesn't get the dead skin off, so I apply cream, which usually just sloughs the dead skin around and is equally disgusting. When it dries, the skin looks just as bad.

Any suggestions?!!? Thanks, I'll pick a best answer TODAY!

Uh...most steroidal cremes are photoreactive. That means if you take them you shouldn't be exposed to excessive UV rays. Regardless of whether you're still on them, they may not have left your system and that could be causing the sensitivity and peeling.

When you tan, you're altering the melanin composition of your upper layer of skin. Some skin cells become damaged during this process, and although you may not have felt burned, you may have damaged some skin. In response to the damaged cells, your healthy cells are like, "OMG! These cells are sick! They'll make us sick! Quickly, get rid of them!" - hence why you peel after a burn.

Cut back on the tanning. Since you're tanning for medical rather than aesthetic reasons, there's no need to tan so frequently. You can expose yourself to the UVB lights and do it at a minimum so that you don't get any physical tan, but your skin still benefits from the exposure to sunlight.

I really recommend aloe vera and vitamin E. Your current lotion may only be perpetuating the problem. Most lotions are fragranced and may just serve to aggravate your skin. Many lotions just provide instant moisture, but do nothing to benefit your skin long term.

My doctor has recommended Aveeno (with the blue lid) for my mild eczema. It seems to work. I also avoid fragranced soaps while in the shower and I put lotion on immediately after showering and then before bed.

I dunno, it sounds like you're just irritating your skin right now. Tanning, then excessive exfoliating and lotion are way too many things. Stop doing everything and slowly reintroduce treatments. Also talk to your doctor about a perscription cream. I had one that acted as a topical anesthetic (numbed the area) and that reduced the redness and inflammation of my eczema.

Popular Urban Skin Myths

It’s odd how bad information about skin and skin care is circulated from person to person. I wanted to debunk these popular myths hoping that the correct information is passed along. Your skin is the largest organ in your body and deserves the proper care and attention.

Tanning At the Salon Is Safe

Some people think by tanning indoor under light bulbs is much safer than tanning outside. They are wrong! In fact, tanning in general is bad for the skin, which may cause premature aging (wrinkles and age spots) and skin cancer. Even though tanning booths claim to use UVA rays (which do not burn the skin) instead of UVB rays, both rays can cause long term skin damage and skin cancer. Have you ever seen people who are constantly gone to tanning booths? Most of them have an abnormal orange or unnatural dark color. Tanning outside in the sun is still just as bad, and the sun also has these terrible UV rays. If you still desire the suntan look minus the UVB and UVA rays, you can invest in a sunless tanner. It only takes minutes to apply.

Acne Is Caused By Eating Greasy Foods

Just because you have acne doesn’t mean that you eat greasy foods. In fact, the only way for someone to get acne from eating greasy foods is by rubbing those oils all of his/her face. Furthermore, acne is mostly caused by hormones, which is why teenagers and adults normally get it.

Even though acne is cause by hormones, you can prevent or minimize it by washing your face with gentle acne cleansers and using hypoallergenic makeup. If you can not get rid of your acne, always go to your dermatologist.

Women Have More Skin Complications Than Men

This is not true at all! Men still get wrinkles, acne, and other skin conditions. Most beauty products are marketed to women rather than men, but it doesn’t mean that women have more skin problems. In fact, skin complications depend on your genetics and other environmental conditions.

Expensive Beauty Products Work Better Than Cheaper Ones

Just because a beauty product costs more does not mean it is more effective than cheaper counter parts. Expensive beauty products market themselves having a special ingredient that is not found anywhere else. Before you purchase those expensive products, research the key ingredient and see if it is in another other cheaper products. You will be surprised how much money you can save and achieve the same results.

However if you really like a particular beauty product whether expensive or cheap, Skin Store probably has it. Skin Store has thousands of beauty products to help you with anti aging, acne, scars, sun damage, pigmentation, psoriasis, eczema, and rosacea. You can also find basic skin care that will protect and enhance your features like lip enhancers, moisturizers, sunscreens, bath products, hair care, and nail care.

Skin Store has the lowest prices anywhere and offers a 115% price guarantee. The reason why Skin Store sells beauty products cheaper is because it buys all of its products in bulk. However if you choose to return your purchase for any reason, you can return any unused portion of the product for a full refund. This is a great way to try beauty products.
