Face Rash Eczema
Face Rash Eczema
Newborn with raised rash and pimples on face and neck?

My newborn daughter is 5 weeks old. Yesterday she developed a raised, red rash with little pimples all over the side of her face, neck, and behind her ears. It doesn't seem to bother her, and I am wondering if it is eczema. Should I be calling her pediatrician about this? What can I do to help it go away?

This sounds like infant acne. My daughter developed the same thing when she was 4 weeks old. It spread across her face, behind her neck, and even onto her chest a little bit. The worst of it was on the bottom portion of her cheeks. She was bumpy, enflamed and red for several weeks, but it cleared up when she was around 7 weeks old. She is now 12 weeks old today, and has gorgeous baby skin!

I would talk to your pediatrician if you are unsure what it is, just to be on the safe side. But infant acne is very common. Keep her skin clean (wash it gently a few times a day and pat it dry, and keep her skin clear of any lotions, oils, etc until it clears up.

Best wishes!

Edit: if it is indeed infant acne, it is caused by all of your pregnancy hormones finally making their exit from your baby's body...a little post-preggo gift from us to them!! :-)
