Guttate Psoriasis Diagnosis
my partner has intense bone pains and stiffness that started a year ago??
He started with psoriasis guttate all over his body last december. the bone pains started this march. he is in pain daily with it. he has seen specialists but is awaiting a diagnosis. any suggestions would be appreciated. i think it is psoriasis arthiritis, but can it come on in a normal body so quickly, literally overnight?
Yes, this definitely sounds like psoriatic arthritis. PA typically starts with the skin rashes, like you are describing, and then the joint pain comes on later (and it can come on kind of suddenly, just like you describe).
Your partner needs to talk to a specialist called a "rheumatologist." These doctors specialize in inflammatory diseases like PA. There are LOTS of treatments out there for PA these days, and while it may take some time for your partner to find the one that works best for him, eventually, he will. And then will be on the road to feeling a lot better.
Make sure that while you are taking good care of your partner, you also take good care of yourself as well. Being with someone who has a chronic illness -- especially one that causes chronic pain -- can be very hard on you. It's frustrating not being able to do anything to help, and it's exhausting feeling like your whole world sometimes has to revolve around how THEY are feeling on any given day. If you start to have trouble coping, I hope you will consider finding someone to talk to -- be it a friend/family member who is going through the same thing, or a counselor or other professional.
Good luck to you both! You can learn more about PA here: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000413.htm
Treating Psoriasis Effectively: Understanding the Signs and Cures
There are different forms of psoriasis treatment for various types such as pustular psoriasis, guttate , plaque, nail and scalp. Symptoms involve for most people itching and can be painful. The lesions may be red spots, red patches and white scales. It is considered extra skin growth.
Triggers are important to identify so you can make an intelligent plan about your lifestyle. Some triggers include underlying infections, bacteria, food allergies, medication responses and anxiety. Try to find out about your family history with skin problem disorders as genetics also can play a role in the formation of psoriasis red patches. Have you had an infection lately? If so, how was it treated. You may be reacting to either the infection or the meds you used to heal it and getting skin eruptions.
A variety of treatments for psoriasis outbreaks is available and include using coal tar, dead sea bath products, salicylic acid (which is used in pimple formulas) and prescription medications. For severe psoriasis that is difficult to control there is methotrexate. Some people may recognize this as a medication used as well for cancer treatments. There are also success stories due to using phototherapy or uv light for psoriasis scaling and blemishes.
Note the location of your red patches and get a diagnosis of what type it is. Nail psoriasis would have a different plan than guttate psoriasis. Be cautious of cirumstances that can induce perspiration to not aggrave the condition further. Having a chronic skin problem can make you want to scream but keep your confidence that with experimentation you will find a solution that will work for you.
