Infant Eczema Triggers
baby eczema troubles...?
My 5 month old has the worst eczema. He is breastfed and nothing in particular seems to trigger it. ( my 2 year old has it too, but not this bad when he was an infant ) Does anyone have any good remedies for eczema in an infant? I am currently using Vanicream (hypoallergenic cream) and cortizone cream when really bad. Thanks for your help.
Oh, it seems to be worse now that the warmer weather is here?? It's about 80degress here.
Sweating and illness make eczema worse.
I use cetaphil cream. My son has severe eczema (he is 19m). We went through allergies (he has them) and go to a pediatric dermatologist. He has steroid cream that are low, med. and high dose.
We use all clear detergent, and aveeno baby sunscreen
A caution about Eucerin and Aquaphor they have lanolin in it. I know these are highly recommended but lanolin is a wool derivative that is a common allergy. My son is allergic to it

If you have eczema you may be looking for ways to control and stop flare ups. By looking into eczema allergies and triggers you can do just that. Most people while eczema produce a rash when they come into contact with an allergen or trigger that causes their eczema to break out. There are many different types of triggers including weather conditions, allergens in the air, foods, skin irritants, stress and much more.
One major type of eczema allergen are the weather conditions and air-born allergens. Smog, pollution, extreme temperatures, humidity and wind can cause outbreaks. Dry skin is often aggravated by low humidity. Heaters in our homes often make the air very dry, a humidifier can help put moisture in the air to keep our skin from become irritated. Dust, dust mites, mold, pollen and dander from pets are also eczema allergies which can trigger an outbreak. Keeping your home allergen free will help reduce rashes and symptoms. If you have extreme eczema you may even consider removing carpet from your home and having no pets.
Food can also cause outbreaks. Food allergies play a bigger role in infant and children's eczema symptoms. Eliminating foods that have proven to cause symptoms can stop rashes from occurring after eating but these are not true allergies and they are typically outgrown. Foods that commonly have a reaction are milk, eggs, peanuts, soybeans, wheat, seafood and fruit with seeds.
Skin irritants are a major concern to people who suffer from eczema. Synthetic fibers like nylon often cause irritation as well as wool, latex, plastic and rubber. Cotton is the best fabric for someone who commonly suffers from outbreaks. Rinsing fabrics twice and avoiding residual detergents helps to reduce irritation. Soap flakes are typically a better choice than laundry detergents and fabric softeners should be avoided. Use gloves when handling water and detergents. Soap, perfume, shaving cream, detergent and shampoos should be avoided Alkali soap is very drying on the skin. Using lukewarm water when bathing is recommended and non soap cleansers should be used. Avoiding perspiration is also a great way to control eczema.
By identifying personal eczema allergies and avoiding them you can reduce your outbreaks and live a happier more comfortable life. No one has to suffer from eczema, identify your triggers and reduce your occurrence of rashes and inflammation.
