Lower Back Eczema

How can I treat these eczema patches at home? Is it serious?
I have some scratchy patches, darkish in color, that have developed on my lower back as well as side of the waist, lower part. One of them is scratchy enough to distract me to scratch it as I go about my day (but I am avoiding as I don't want skin to be inflamed). I use almond oil daily or vaseline at times on the skin to moisturize and calm it, but doesn't seem to help. Are there any other good remedies to soothe or help it go away? Any good over-the-counter creams. It seems to be prevalent certain times of the year.
Do you think this is serious enough that I should visit a doctor. I am avoiding because I don't have insurance. If this can be calmed down at home, I can save a trip. Thanks for your suggestions.
OK I write this or some version to a lot of people. If you need more info, email me, I only intend to help you understand this and fix it with food and/or safe supplements.
One supplement you must obtain at your finer, better stocked health food store is Capryl by a company called Solaray. Also pick up some garlic tabs at the pahrmacy or same HF store. Eat lots of salads with little or no oils and fiber like oatmeal every day. Stay hydrated and put some fresh lemon juice in your water. This is the abbreviated version but just email if you need details or need me to cut and paste a more detailed answer from a previous question poster.
You can treat it topically for the rest of your life or you can start to understand why the health of your gastro-intestinal tract (your make-up of intestinal flora) affects things like this.
A serving of fresh pineapple and banana are good too-every day. Best wishes.
