Prescription Medication Eczema
Prescription Medication Eczema
Anyone know anything about eczema on eyelids?

I have been told that the itching on my eyelids is eczema but the cream given me by the doctor (a steroid) isn't helping at all. I wasn't too keen on using a steroid on my eyes anyway but did try. I'm in u.k. by the way.

Do any of you know of anything more gentle, preferably available over the counter rather than prescription only medication? I'd be interested to try anything considered alternative/complementary if you could recommend but I cannot afford to visit a natural therapist.

I have eczema on my face and eyelids as well. Usually 1% hydrocortisone work for my eyelids if I get deperate but I hear your concern. I try not to use it often because of the side effects. What does also work for me is pure Vaseline. It takes a couple of days to kick in but it takes the itching away and as long as I keep it moist it tends to stay at bay. Give it a try, it's cheap and lasts a long time. Make sure it's Vaseline and not some generic petroleum jelly. They generic petroleum jelly didn't seem to do the same job, don't know why!

1 - Some of the treatments are taken orally and they are more often than not antihistamines and corticosteroids because both have the capability to stop itching and alleviate inflammation. There are over the counter Antihistamines but there are also those that are only provided for prescription.

2 - Another way to alleviate eczema flare-up and break out is to allow your skin to get good hydration. Hydrating substances like lotions, creams and moisturizers can keep your skin smooth and moisturized. However, there are also thicker creams that can do better in the prevention of dry skin.

3 - Avoid products that contain substances like perfumes or fragrances because more often than not they have active components that will irritate the skin.

4 - If you have dry skin, be sure to apply moisturizing lotion or cream right after taking a bath when your skin is still damp. (Preferably unscented types)

5 - Taking a bath alone will also help in hydrating and moisturizing your skin. But, adding colloidal oatmeal and baking soda on the water you will be using is better.

6 - Be sure that you will use lukewarm water since it has always been known that hot water can make the skin dry.

7 - Be sure that you are not using any harsh soap that can irritate your skin.

8 - If your surroundings have dry air, it would be ideal to add humidifier so that it can add moisture to the air.

Primarily, it is ideal that you need to avoid the triggers because eczema is a skin problem that is so stubborn and is recurring many times within a lifetime. To avoid it from happening, you must be on the defensive side of things. There is nothing better to prevent than to cure. A lot of irritants can cause this problem to erupt and you do not want to use them. Clothing and fabrics are just a few of those irritants that will make your skin itchy. Triggers range from food, weather, fragrances to fabrics and each individual will have different triggers for that matter. Therefore, you have to be careful and determine what exactly cause your problem.

There are a lot of over the counter to prescription medication that you can make use of but before anything else, consider what you can do at home first. You can try the natural way of solving your problem rather than act in haste and regret it later because it did not actually help you. Instead, it made things worst. You can be safe yet efficient in treating the problem.
