Psoriasis Burning

psoriasis and tanning bed?
i have had the type of psoriasis that comes on after a throat infection, its sever and has been here for over 3 months now.
i have been on alot of drugs and nothing has worked.
so now im looking into the tanning option.
i cant really consult a doctor because i dont have a family doctor right now thats why im asking here.
its covering my whole body.
ive never went to a tanning bed before.
i was told by friends that i wouldnt want to be in there any longer then 5 minutes..
my question for the psoriasis sufferers that have tanned, is that too long of a time?
and for this type of psoriasis should this help me?, and how soon should i get results?
i have less scaling and alot of redness with burning and itching.....i cant take this pain much longer so any advise would be great.
I was diagnosed with guttate psoriasis after I had bronchitis a few times. That was 20 years ago. I started PUVA light treatment a few years ago and it has worked well for me. Usually I go in the winter as thats when its the worse and I don't have the sun and humidity to help. When they start me in the light box (I stand in it, rather than lay down), they usually begin with 30 seconds and it just gradually increases as weeks go on. It also depends on your skin type, Type 1-5 (1 means you burn easily, 5 means you just glisten after you've been in the sun awhile). I'm a type 3, and my current time in the light box is 4 minutes and I'm a little pink where there is psoriasis and I've been going for 5 months (I started back in January).
Now this is the concentrated rays of UVB and not what you'll get at a tanning salon, which I believe is a mix of UVA and UVB. So you can probably do a little longer your first time. Although I would try a minute your first time, because getting burned with psoriasis is NOT fun. It makes your skin dryer, and itchier- like you need any help right?
I do hope you get a doctor soon so you can go to a dermatologist who has a light box, because I think you would see results quicker and you should have someone checking your skin type to make sure you are getting the right type of treament.
Good Luck!
