I dont know what to do :-( I have been taking folic acid because my hair seems to be thinning?

I am 21 and female. My hair used to be really thick but lately I noticed its a hell of a lot thinner, and I seem to have loose hair all over my clothes, bedroom etc...
I have checked my head for bald patches and I do not have any but I am loosing my hair from the front of my head, especially at the sides (the hair line) I have psoriasis of the scalp but I dont think this has anything to do with it, there is also no history of alopecia in the family.

Help :-( I hate doctors :-(
amanda I use herbal essense shampoo and conditioner, maybe I should just allow my hair a 3 week holiday lol. The thing is I dont use any products on my hair, I dont even blowdry it when I have washed it... I used to dye it a lot, but I stopped doing this about 8 months ago (to give my hair a break)... do you think it is a horemone thing?

What shampoo do you use?
I have read in many articles that Pantene shampoo is proven to make you lose some hair because it cleans your hair 'too well'
After I read this, I did noticed that when I'm squeezing my hair in the shower (to get all the water out) some hair does come out. I then switched to a different shampoo and this no longer happens.
I'm not sure if this is the same with your case but it could be a contributing factor.

Hmm..
#1. First and foremost genetics come into play. If you do not have a family history of thinning hair in your family then there are other contributing factors.
#2. Stress and trauma are prone to produce increased levels of testosterone, which converts to DHT, and interrupts the hair growth cycle [constricting the blood supply, oxygen and nutrient uptake and vitamins to the hair follicle].
#3. Nutrition and diet play a significant role in hair loss whereby a high consumption of animal fats, rapid weight loss and liquid protein diets can create a lack of amino acids, biotin, iron, protein and zinc - all of which are essential to healthy hair.
#4. Health issues such as a malfunctioning of the hormone producing thyroid and natural hormonal changes in women due to pregnancy, childbirth and menopause, can trigger hair loss.
#5. Medications such as birth-control or any hormone therapy can contribute to hair loss as the hair follicle is incredibly sensitive to changes. Steroids, specific chemotherapies as well as many blood pressure, diabetic, heart disease and acne medications can cause temporary or permanent hair loss.
#6. Environmental factors such as toxins, air and water pollutants, chlorine, metals and minerals may be left on the scalp and hair as we wash with water every day. Pollutants such as pseudo-estrogens and toxins from within our body can also contribute to hair loss.

To help with thinning hair There are a few things you'll wanna do:
#1. Use a shampoo that has no sulfates. Sulfates are found in cheap shampoos. They are abrasive salts used to cleanse the hair but they do serious damage to the scalp and hair in the process. The best hair care I have found is made by a company called Elon. They make alot of Dermatology recommended products. Their pre-wash basically fixes damage caused by over treatment and coloring in 1-2 uses and their masque deep conditions. The shampoo and conditioner are sulfate free so they keep your hair soft.
#2. Start taking Elon Matrix 5,000 vitamins. These vitamins have biotin in them, which Dermatologists have found to help in hair regrowth. From what I have read about this product it helps rebuild the follicle and strengthen the hair.
#3. Perming, coloring and any heat treatments will cause damage to your hair so try and do these as little as possible if you can. The Elon haircare system is color extending which should help if you color you hair. Try to stay away from bleaching as much as possible stick with darker hair colors to avoid bleach.
Hope this helps! GOOD LUCK
