Psoriasis Seasonal
Is psoriasis seasonal????
i want to know whether psoriasis patients remain totally clear of the disease during some months and get severely affected during some six months of the year...this pattern keeps on repeating or do they have it permanently...
Psoriasis is a chronic disease in which the brain receives the message that it needs to send in the immune system to attack some kind of invader like those caused by infection, for example. Often strep throat can cause the immune system to over react.
However, since the person does not have anything to be "fixed" the immune system will rapidly pile up skin cells which grow very abnormally fast and make "plaques" which are inflamed, itchy and painful. Most people with Psoriasis suffer some here and there, but some of us are covered with these Horrible lesions . Unfortunately, with Psoriasis, which is one of many autoimmune diseases is incurable.
As far as the weather affecting it, you are somewhat correct. Sunshine is a natural immune system suppressor so it slows or stops the confused cells from their attack. Again, unfortunately, sunshine doesn't work for many and because the disease has a flare and remit pattern, it may appear that it is more active in the winter when there is less sun. Some treatments actually use UV light, administered in something similar to a tanning booth.
Anyone afflicted with Psoriasis should see a Dermatologist because while it is incurable, there are many treatments available that can help put your Psoriasis into a medical remission. Mine is in complete remission right now for the first time in twenty years! I'm taking Remicade. Ask your doctor about it.
Beware, many "snake oil salesmen" will try to sell you all kinds of lotions and potions that won't do anything but relieve you of your money! See a medical doctor before trying anything offered to you because left untreated, it can become serious. Way more than you wanted to know, huh?
