Can psoriasis ruin your relationship?
I dated a guy six years a go who I thought was the love of my life. He had mild psoriasis but that did not change the way that I felt about him. Things ended because we were both young and we parted ways. After making a few dating mistakes, I decided to stay single. Two months ago, the love of my life found me. He said he had been looking for me for over a year and he showed me proof of all that he had done to find me. Today he wants us to work a relationship, live together, maybe possible marry sometime in the future. He constantly talks about his psoriasis problem, well because today it is a severe case. I am afraid that I am going to start getting concious of his condition that will reverse my feelings. I am afraid of touching him and hurting him. I have read a lot of information about this condition and I wish there was a cure, but how can you live with someone who constantly talks about it? Please help!
it sounds like you really like this guy. if that's the case, then his psoriasis shouldn't really matter. you've already accepted his problem: you went out with him once, and it sounds like you're on the verge of getting back into a relationship. however, you should let him know that his constant talking about it is making you feel uncomfortable. tell him that although you understand that the topic will come up, you don't want it to define your relationship. suggest a support group, or maybe counseling. this way he will have an outlet for his concerns about his disease, and the conversations between the two of you can focus on other things.
The easiest type of sleep apnea to diagnose and treat is the type caused by obesity. Finding relief from snoring of this nature is simply achieved by weight loss. Of course, obesity is a medical condition on its own, but with diet, exercise, behavior modification, weight loss medications, and surgery, you can successfully treat and cure apnea-causing obesity, thereby finding a cure for sleep apnea.
Obstructive apnea is caused by an obstruction of the nasal airways either by swollen tonsils or adenoids, a deviated nasal septum, or a nasal polyp. Once these conditions are identified, doctors or dentists often prefer to prescribe surgery to correct the problems.
The problem with surgery, as a cure for apnea, is that it is invasive, often painful, and of course, carries an element of risk. If the patient is unwilling to deal with that, they may have to settle for dental appliances or a Continuous Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine to help deal with the symptoms.
Another type of sleep apnea is the type referred to, medically, as central sleep apnea. This is a worse sleeping condition than the previous because it is caused by an abnormality in the part of your brain that controls respiration. Since even brain surgery cannot boast of a cure for this condition, the only remedies for it are the anti snoring devices often prescribed by dental health professionals specializing in apnea dentistry.
Medical specialists still advise that all snorers and patients of apnea reduce or totally avoid sedative or hypnotic drugs.
