is there any oral drugs for psoriasis?

I heard in the news a while ago now that scientists tried some tests of a drug on arthritics which by accident actually cured somebody of psoriasis.Has this drug been developed further because my husband finds the steroid creams useless.

There is a drug for rheumatoid arthritis called Enbrel that has ben approved for the treatment of psoriasis. It is not oral, it is injectable, but my husband also suffers from psoriasis and no cream worked on him either. Yet Enbrel has been super effective. Yes, it requires an injection twice weekly, later reduced to once a week, but my husband thinks it is totally worth it!! I know they have a website, and I can tell you that the drug is about $1100 for a 1 month supply. I have EXCELLENT insurance, and we still pay a $75 copayment for it. I hope this helps! Good luck, there IS hope!!

If you want quick relief from itching, the "best" eczema creams are the ones that contain corticosteroids. Relief is fast, but it comes with a price. There are a whole host of side effect associated with using steroid creams:

* Thinning of the skin * Pigment changes (lighter or darker skin) * Telangectasia (blood vessel) formation * Rosacea, perioral dermatitis and acne * Increased susceptibility to infections of the skin * Delayed wound healing ability * Irritation, redness, burning, stinging and peeling of the skin * Contact dermatitis from the topical steroid itself

The remedy could end up being worse for you than the condition itself.

A better choice might be a natural cream. For the most part, you won't have any side effects and you can use the natural creams long term. You still have to exercise a little care when choosing a natural cream. Many products advertise themselves as "natural" but if you take a close look at their list of ingredients you will find that they contain chemicals with very long, very unpronounceable names. Natural means from nature. A chemical manufactured in a lab is definitely not natural.

Even if you choose a cream with all natural ingredients, don't assume that it will work for you. Allergies are known to cause or exacerbate eczema symptoms. If you happen to be allergic to an ingredient in a cream, coconut oil, for example, then you definitely won't get any relief from your symptoms, and may end up making them worse. Whichever product you choose, read the ingredients carefully.

There are some specific ingredients you might want to look for in an eczema cream. Aloe Vera is very soothing and good at keeping the skin moisturized. For some, it works especially well when combined with vitamin E, which has antioxidant activity to help protect the skin from ultra violet light. Vitamin E also helps maintain the skin's oil balance and reduces Tran epidermal water loss. Calendula, a marigold extract, has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which helps reduce itching.

With so many eczema creams available, even natural ones, you may have to try several before finding one that works best for you. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you are getting some relief from your current cream, you may not feel extreme urgency to jump at anything. You can pick and choose carefully. In the end, you should be able to find a cream that works well for you, providing the relief you need.
