Wet footed pajamas with vasoline on legs (doctor's idea)
Neosporin, bandaids, no-bandaids (doctor's idea), Aveeno bath with oatmeal, all Aveeno lotions, Cetaphil, baby oil in the bath, Dove lotion (doctor's idea), and now I have taken her old socks, cut them up, and used her hair bands to attach the socks to her skin to cover her scabs on her legs after coating them with tons of Bag Balm (which I have been using for the past month - uncovered). I am hoping that the old socks covering her skin will stop her from scratching. Weird thing -- she has not had any sign of eczema for over 3 months and when she gets hot or plays in the dirt, she starts scratching like crazy. I rarely bathe her and when I do, it is a shower, but her skin is horrific afterward so I mainly "spot bathe" her and wash her hair in the kitchen sink. HELP --- I am running out of ideas and it is already 80 degrees outside and she needs to wear shorts, etc.
Unfortunately, as uncomfortable as we all feel doing it (and I felt like a monster!) when my son had excema, the doctor told me to clip his nails really short, and then put mittens or gloves on his hands.
Then use medical tape to tape them to her wrists- if she is allergic to the adhesive (which she probably will be, since she has excema), then unfortunately, you need to put her in *sigh* a long-sleeved shirt and tape them to the shirt really really well. (She can't scratch through the mittens, and if she manages to get them off, hopefully her nails will be short enough not to do too much damage.)
Important: Give her a benadryl to help her sleep through the itching (remember-- excema is an allergic reaction, not just a skin condition.) And then crank up the AC. A larger electric bill may just be worth the comfort and safety of your child.
