Eczema Symptoms Causes

16 month old with weird skin irritation?

My daughter has eczema type symptoms that are treatable with certain lotions and A&D ointment. Lately, though, it's been very bad and almost seems like something else is wrong. Her skin is extremely dry and cracks so that it has a lot of tiny red streaks. It is the worst on top of her feet, although it shows up just above her ankles, her cheeks, and once it was on her lower abdomen. I have been coating her with A&D at night before I put on her pajamas, and everything except her feet clears up overnight (her feet might would if I could get her to keep on socks). I use Aveeno Advanced during the day and it normally helps, but if I forget she ends up with these rashes again. She has had sensitive skin since she was born, but it has been gradually getting better. Before it got cold, I only had to lotion her once every few days and rarely had to use A&D. Does this sound like something I should be concerned about or could the weather really be causing the excess irritation?

It sounds like she may have a fungus starting up. I'd take her to the doctor. She may need an anti-fungal,OR she may have an allergy to her environment. The best thing is to ask your doctor. If his opinion does not satisfy you,ask him to refer you to a specialist.
