Eczema Is An Allergy
Eczema Is An Allergy
Doctor thinks my body is anatomically awkward...thoughts?

...so I've experienced this weird burning pain (not heartburn - we've ruled that out thoroughly...same for ulcers, etc) in the middle of my rib cage and just above my stomach. We've done many, many, many tests on me (except CT Scan, MRI, GI Scope...latter doing in October)...my doctor is stumped.

She has come up with one theory though that I might be anatomically awkward, which she defined vaguely as potentially my organs are shifted too far to one direction. Now I'm not pregnant, I'm 23 years old, suffer from asthma/eczema/allergies and a digestion problem...

I guess I'm looking to find out if anybody else has gone through similar symptoms (includes bloating, nausea, hot feeling above stomach, exhaustion, difficulty standing during 'attack'...) and if their problem was resolve and what that was.

How Are Eczema And Allergies Linked?

The simple answer to the question in the title is, "Very closely." A major cause of eczema symptoms are allergies of all types: food, clothing, pets, molds, pollens, chemicals - the list goes on and on. So, knowing that allergies may be causing your eczema symptoms, how do you find out what you are allergic to and what do you do once you know?

If you suspect allergies may be contributing to your eczema, you should consult with your health practitioner to determine a course of diagnosis and treatment you are comfortable with, but there are all sorts of allergy tests available. There are allergy skin tests, where a suspected allergen is introduced to the skin and then observed for an allergic reaction. Blood tests like the RAST and ALCAT can check for a variety of allergens.

In the realm of alternative treatments there is the BAX3000, which is a biofeedback and laser therapy system. Another alternative treatment is the QXCI biofeedback and stress reduction system. There are patients that swear these systems have cured their eczema and there are those who call it voodoo medicine. There are also more "traditional" alternatives, such as acupuncture and hypnosis.

Whatever method you choose, identifying and dealing with allergies can be time consuming and frustrating. What if you eliminate known allergens from your environment but you still have undiminished or only slightly reduced symptoms of eczema? Then what?

The answer might be subtler allergies or immune system imbalances at a more systemic level. We daily move through a virtual sea of chemicals, from the food we eat, to the products around our homes, to the very air we breathe. It's not too much of a stretch to say our bodies may be compromised at a very deep level.

If other methods of sorting out your eczema symptoms have been unsuccessful, you might want to consider other paths, such as eating organic to reduce the toxins in and on the foods you eat. You might also want to consider a cleanse to begin to rid your body of the toxins that have accumulated over the years of your life. Consult with your health care professional.

Regardless of what path you choose in treating your eczema, understand that eczema and allergies are very tightly linked and therefore the odds are good that allergies of some kind are contributing to your eczema. Understand also that there are many, many treatment options that are successful in controlling and moderating eczema symptoms, so you will find one that works for you.
