Eczema Cortisone Cream
Eczema Cortisone Cream
Why is my baby's eczema causing yellowing of the skin?

My baby always gets an eczema rash in the same spot on her forehead. The doctor prescribes cortisone cream which I use and right now the rash is cleared up but the spot where the rash usually is is yellowish. Anyone else have this happen?

It's oxidation of the cream you use. That happens.

The Use of Cortisone Creams for Eczema

Cortisone creams can be a useful way to deal with eczema outbreaks and flare ups. The mild ones are usually one percent only , but even at this concentration some precautions should be followed. If you are using hydrocortisone or another cortisone cream at 1 percent, remember that it's still advised to do so for just 21 days. After that, it is good to let your skin take a break.

Corticosteroids are often feared by people who hear the stories about steroids making you more aggressive and increasing your appetite. This won't happen with corticosteroids as this is not what is used for athletic professional success to increase stamina, muscle build up and performance.  People make mistakes though and will spread the cortisone cream over large sections of the body rather than confine it to the inflamed erupted patches and pimples. Try to keep it at those areas primarily.

It is critical to also moisturize the skin even when you use steroid cortisone creams . But don't do these at same time. Wait a bit so the skin can get the benefits of both. Also don't neglect moisturizing your eczema skin because you are taking a prescription cortisone lotions or ointment regiment. Moisturizing will benefit the skin tremendously and should not be neglected.

Monitoring the use of cortisone creams is important to be sure that it won't accelerate acne problems, cause red marks or bruising. The skin does absorb what is put on it so this is another reason why it's good to watch your usage and remember to stop after 21 days for a bit. The thinning of skin is not something to keep promoting.

For inflammation reduction, many find cortisone helps. When it doesn't prednisone or another steroid may be orally prescribed. Regardless of what you are using, be sure to apply a moisturizer twice a day. Other important helpers include flax seed oil, watching your diet for allergic responses and applying natural oils to the skin to prevent it drying out.
